Women’s Rights Online is a global network of gender justice and digital rights organizations with a near decade track record of research and interventions to shape policies, processes, and products to positively impact the experience of women and other minoritized persons online. Using a blend of fresh research, advocacy, and storytelling, our work focuses on reforming policy and regulation so that everyone, everywhere can afford to connect and have the skills and opportunities to participate online privately and freely.
We’ve worked with governments to enhance legislative and policy frameworks, focusing on technology and gender inclusivity. This includes legislative guidance, ontology frameworks for clarity and consistency, and the Gender and ICT Policy Playbook to integrate gender perspectives into ICT policies for inclusive digital access.
We support civil society in influencing tech policy and promoting inclusivity, providing resources like the Perpetrator Research Roadmap, Technology Policy Design Lab Playbook, and Gender and ICT Policy Playbook to advocate for gender-sensitive digital environments.
We’ve collaborated with tech platforms to enhance safety and accountability through initiatives like the Evaluation Toolkit for Safety-By-Design, tools for evaluating online gender-based violence (OGBV), strategies to address malicious flagging, and ensuring accountability for product improvements focused on user protection and responsible design.
We address the digital divide through the Digital Gender Gap Audit, global surveys, and the REACT Framework, emphasizing inclusive digital policies with the Gender and ICT Policy Playbook.
Our work includes guidance on product accountability, legislative language, and locally responsive data, supported by the Gender and ICT Policy Playbook.
